Pictures of TCL 2005 (2)

Rosemary teaching.  There are four main classrooms plus space for meetings and tutorials in the library block.  Most lessons are translated into either Sinhala or Tamil depending on the preferred language of the lecturer.  Rosemary lectures in English and is understood by most of her fourth year students but some translation is still necessary. The chapel.  There is a service every morning between lectures. Each service is preceded by a period of silence.  Then a student conducts worship in a form and for a duration that depends on the day.  On Thursdays, for example, the service is in English and lasts 15 minutes.  On Wednesday evenings there is a community service attended by staff, students and family members.  The picture shows music practice.
Digging a well.  The residential college community comprises students and staff, their spouses and children.  Nearly 100 people live on the site.  Water supply is crucial and the college depends on its own wells in addition to using piped mains water.  Here a new well, begun by a JCB digger, is dug further by students on a special community labour day (25/9/05). As we know, while many hand make light work too many chefs spoil the broth!  James, staff and some students look on.
