A Visit to Mahatenna, Ashburnham Estate, near Elkaduwa  Wednesday September 26th 2007 A Poya Day

For Rosemary's birthday we went to a beautiful old Tea Planter's bungalow at Mahatenna one hour north of Kandy.  The views back to Kandy were stunning.  We were delighted to have our friends Paul and Ina Watson and their two children Abigail and Hannah with us. The weather was sunny but not too warm, ideal weather for a stroll through the local tea estate.

This year Rosemary's birthday coincided with the Monthly Buddhist Public Holiday on  Full Moon Day, the religious festival known as Poya.

It is difficult to find circular walks in tea country but Paul was determined to find the connecting path that would help bring us back by another route.  We ended a super walk by bathing in the pool beneath a 40ft waterfall.

We then had a very tasty curry for a late lunch, cooked by the staff at the bungalow, and after that spent a relaxing afternoon at the bungalow before driving home at sunset to TCL.  Rosemary had a lovely birthday! In this picture we see some of the beautiful flowers at Mahatenna House Sunset near Elkaduwa, on our way back to TCL.
