At Kiribathkumbura

A few hundred yards along the main road is the village of Kiribathkumbura.  There are many small shops and this sub-post office. This sign at the Highway Museum in Kiribathkumbura is in three languages, Sinhala, Tamil and English.  The sign notes the construction of an arch bridge in 1826 in the time of Governor Barnes.  The bridge is still there.
This is a large fruit stall on the main road that picks up some trade from tourist buses as well as local trade.  Avocados, bananas, pineapples, limes, papaya, water melons, coconut, king coconut, onions, leeks, garlic (mild and sold by the kilogram), cabbage and lots of vegetables we haven't yet identified. This is a more typical fruit stall.  There are many like this and many even smaller.  Often these sell less well-known fruits like jack fruit and durian.
