Farewell  at Church  Sunday June 6th 2010

On Sunday June 6th 2010 Rosemary conducted her last service at Kandy Methodist Church.  At the end of the service Yvonne Ferdinands (left) made a short speech and we were given the lovely gift of two heavy brass candlesticks in the form of traditional Kandyan pillars and two small brass plates.  Here the circuit steward, Neville Liyanige passes the gift to Rosemary while the minister, Rev. Anil Silva, and Yvonne look on. Our Sinhala teacher for a while was Mrs. Devakanthi Fernando.  In truth, we must have been rather disappointing students because once on a plateau we doggedly stayed there, finding that the little knowledge we had seemed to be sufficient for shops, college workers and police check points.

We were very pleased to see Fr. Neil van Dort of St. Paul's Church, Kandy and also Pastor Kit Mudalige, husband of mission partner Maggie (on furlough in UK).

Kandy Methodist Church is situated in the heart of Kandy town and we have been very fortunate to be able to part our vehicle there for a modest fee.  Here is Mr. Ratnapala who looks after the car and shuffles around the vehicles to make sure we're not blocked in.  A very helpful man.
