| Yala National Park is the largest and most popular National Park in Sri Lanka. It is famous for its elusive leopards and herds of elephants. We went at the end of January with the water holes quite full. This made it harder to see leopards but it did mean that there were plenty of birds. This is a Painted Stork. |
Here is a young Crested Serpent Eagle rummaging around in the undergrowth beside the road. |

| We saw lots of peacocks who were busy showing off to the peahens. | We saw many lovely Bee-eaters including this Blue-tailed Bee-eater. |
| We never tire of seeing wild buffalo wallowing in mud. |
Here are three crocodiles lying in the sand. |

And we did get to see one lone and very large leopard. Our guide/driver was the first to spot it and in no time there was a traffic jam on the rutted road. Yala isn't wide open like so many African parks. Sadly none of our photos did the beast justice. Monday afternoon December 28th 2009. |
We arrived at the Bundala National Park on Wednesday later in the afternoon of December 30th. Bundala is famous for its birds. We saw lots of them, including a pair of Pied Kingfishers, but our photographs weren't very good. We stayed there until sunset when the Park closed. |
