Some very welcome visitors at the beginning of 2009, our first for what seemed a long time.

February and March were busy with visitors.  Our first visitors were Janet Sherwell and Sue and Margaret Greaves from Sandon Road Methodist Church in Birmingham  from which Rosemary offered for the Ministry in 1986-7.  We were delighted to welcome them to Kandy and take them to the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya where this picture was taken.  They toured much of the island and had a very enjoyable time.  (Monday February 9th 2009 Poya Day.) Then TCL hosted three theological educators from England, namely Gary Hall (1st left) of the Queen's foundation in Birmingham, David Hewlett, its Principal (4th from left) and Andrew Lunn (in black) from the Wesley Study Centre in Durham.  They had various interesting meetings with TCL Faculty, TCL students, former TCL students and Reverend Anura Perera of Kandy Methodist Church (above right), sharing about inter-faith dialogue.  They had a fascinating time and we very much enjoyed our time with them.
Later in February  Mike King, Team Leader of World Church Relations at the Methodist Church Headquarters in London, paid a packed visit to Sri Lanka.  The Methodist Church of  Britain is funding not only us at TCL but also Lawrence and Malar, Mission Partners from India, and half the time of Maggie Mudilage who has been TCL's librarian for eleven years, (USPG funds the other half).  Mike's visit was very helpful to us and we are grateful for his time here. Here we are pictured outside the Lawrence's home on Thursday afternoon February 26th 2009.

Mike went on to Mutur to visit the other British Methodist Mission Partner, David Furnival.

Rosemary completes the world church scene by wearing a top made from cloth brought back by our two TCL students who went to Zambia last October/November 2008.

For Methodists, we are Day 19 in the Prayer Manual.

Finally, Bryan and Joy Jones visited us again. They are members of Wroughton Methodist Church, a church which has been very supportive of our work here.  Joy and Bryan  came originally in February 2007 and liked Sri Lanka so much they wanted to return.  And they liked their very knowledgeable driver, Anura, sufficiently to ask him to make all the local arrangements for their second holiday here.  We had some time in Kandy with them and, a week later, some time in Nuwara Eliya.  This picture was taken in Hakgala Botanical Gardens,  Nuwara Eliya on Saturday March 14th 2009
