An ancient reservoir at Kantale south of Trincomalee. Called tanks, these are often more than 1000 years old and were built to catch the monsoon rains and irrigate the land.  This view is taken from the road along the large dyke along the south side of the tank.  On the other side of the dyke you can see the paddy fields that depend on the water from the tank.
