| This year the students decided to spread out the Sports Meet over the entire academic year. This means the events can be arranged to better match the weather conditions and also the pressure on student time is less. The first sport was table tennis singles. The two oldest competitors, Rosemary and Fr. Keerthi, won their respective competitions. Here Rosemary is pictured on her way to victory in the Women's Singles. | There is a shortage of blood in the country, mostly due to the war and its aftermath. There are still many people who are recovering from their injuries. The college hosted a blood doning session. Nearly all the female students were under the required weight of 50kg (7st 12lbs). Some of the male students were too. In the end Rosemary was the only woman from TCL and the only Faculty member to give blood. There were a total of 41 donors from the local village and the TCL Community. . |

The college nursery held a "Polla", a market or bazaar, on Friday August 7th 2009, where the young children staffed the stalls and sold their produce. These two girls are in danger of committing the cardinal commercial sin of eating the stock! They are selling butter fruit (avocado) and, a local delicacy, soursop, the larger fruit in the picture, which has a creamy texture and a unique flavour that is very much a favourite with James. |
For three years Rosemary (June 2006-June 2009) was the Faculty member with responsibility for the nursery. Now the responsibility has been passed on, and the parents and staff were keen to express their appreciation. They gave Rosemary an attractive batik picture made by one of the parents. |

| The College Community said farewell to the Lawrence Family at a chapel service on the evening of Wednesday July 29th 2009. Dr. Lawrence and Malar have been at TCL for six years during most of which Dr. Lawrence was the Dean. Their gentle presence and hard work at TCL have been much appreciated by students, Faculty and staff. Dr. Lawrence was also licensed by the Diocese of Kurunegala and conducted many Sunday services in Tamil, sometimes travelling long distances by bus to do so. He also took services in the Kandy Methodist Circuit in both Tamil and English. Malar taught Counselling and Pastoral Studies to the TCL students and spouses, and also taught the external Diploma in Counselling and Group Work Skills with Ina Watson ( 4 batches 2006-2009). | The college was privileged to have
the presence of Prof. Sathi Clarke*
of the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington DC for three weeks in July. He was visiting as
this years beneficiary of the Bray Lectureship** which is taking him to various theological
colleges around the world. He lectured at TCL and in Colombo on the
subject of competing religious fundamentalisms as a new context for
Christian theology, and also provided
a new voice to teach part of an established course. He also made
insightful comments on the subject of
theological education which are particularly relevant as TCL explores its
way forward. We very much enjoyed showing him
some of the sights in Kandy. * Sathi Clarke holds the Bishop Sundo Kim Chair in World Christianity and is also Professor of Theology, Culture and Mission. ** The Bray Lectureship is sponsored by USPG: Anglicans in World Mission and SPCK (Society for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge) which were both founded by Thomas Bray. |
