| Our tour of the south over New Year took us to Tangalle where former TCL student leader, Ridgeway, and his wife of one year and our former TCL colleague, Devika, now serve. We went to their wedding last January and were very pleased to see them in their home. Thursday December 31st 2010 | From Tangalle we travelled west and stopped at Dondra Head, the southernmost point on the island. We were allowed to climb the beautifully kept lighthouse. Looking south, the next places across the ocean are Australia and Antarctica |

Next stop was the Methodist Church in Weligama where former student Manoj is now the Minister. Thursday December 31st |
On our way home we were cut up by a three wheeler that was passing us. The driver made the desperate manoeuvre because he was about to get caught in a police trap based on double white lines in the middle of the road. As a result he knocked off our front bumper in full view of a couple of policemen. The driver was a former soldier who had lost a leg and shouldn't have been driving the three wheeler. For him it was very serious. It so happened that ten yards away there was a garage. On of the policeman wisely told us all to go to the garage and get it fixed and told the three wheeler driver that he must pay. There were no parts needed so the cost was minimal. The policeman asked if we wanted to press charges - of course, we didn't. Happy endings all round. Friday January 1st 2010 |
