Some scenes from the Pussellawa Peacemakers Pre-School Year End Concert.

Together with our neighbours, Rev'd Karunasekara and his wife Jancy, we were guests of honour at the Pussellawa Peacemakers Pre-School Year End Concert.  The opening prayers were said by a Buddhist child, a Christian child, a Moslem child and a Hindu child - shown above. There were about twenty different dances and songs, each with beautiful costumes.  There were Singhalese, Tamil and Hindustani dances.  There was an "English" dance to a ghastly disco beat and a drama acted out to a song sung in English.  The children are taught some English at the pre-school.  This picture shows five year-olds dancing with candles.  Health and Safety Inspectors look away!
Here is a local version of Old Macdonald's Farm with the farmer in his sarong and his wife despairing as their animals running amok around him. We made speeches and gave the children certificates.  The concert started at 10:15 and continued until well past 14:00 when we left for lunch.  This concert in the Town Hall provided an excellent opportunity for the pre-school to become better known in the community and for parents to admire their children.  The hall was packed to overflowing with more than 300 people.
