Holy Trinity Anglican Church and the Peacemakers Pre-School at Pussellawa

Holy Trinity is a small whitewashed church on a wooded hillock overlooking Pussellawa. The inside is cool and airy.  There are brass memorials to a number of plantation owners and superintendents.   The church will be 150 years old in 2009.   Pussellawa is half way between Kandy and the biggest highlands town, Nuwara Eliya.  The steep, winding road is currently being widened, a huge project being undertaken by a Chinese company. In the shadow of Holy Trinity is the Peacemakers Pre-School.  Established in 1976, the pre-school is attended by 85 children of the four faiths in Sri Lanka.  Crammed into the simple premises a wide variety of activities takes place, not just the pre-school classes in the morning.
The main room in the Pre-School.  Classes are conducted in Sinhala, Tamil and English and the work on the walls reflects this variety.  By encouraging understanding of multiple languages at the earliest possible stage, the pre-school lives up to its name. Father Rex, the Parish Priest of Pussellawa lights the traditional lamp at the start of the Year End Concert of the Pre School in the Town Hall. Father Rex is also a senior tutor at TCL. He speaks the 3 Sri Lankan languages, plus Italian and German, and Biblical Hebrew and Greek
