A Visit to Kurunegula

| The Diocese of Kurunegula is the smaller of the two Anglican dioceses in Sri Lanka. Its cathedral is nestled beneath a mountain from which an enormous Buddha peers over. The Buddha enjoys a splendid view to the west. This picture shows the rear view and the rails used to transport concrete from the nearest road. | We went to Kurunegula to see Helen Ledger, an EEP (Experience Exchange Partner) from UK, who was spending 3 months organising and adding to the diocesan archives, and training someone to look after them. She had already spent 6 months in India helping in a community and living in a Roman Catholic Girls' Home deep in rural Tamil Nadu. |

| The lake is particularly pretty and we enjoyed a gentle stroll around it. | Afterwards we visited the Christodaya boy's home which is run by a retired teacher and his wife. The boys are aged between 6 and 18 and are very self-reliant. Not only did they re-cover the roof themselves, but they also had just finished building a tree house in a large mango tree. Shortly after this photo was taken there was a loud crack. The mass evacuation included Rosemary and Helen. Every house has to settle, after all. |
