Some views of Kandy Lake

| This is a view looking north of Kandy Lake which was created by the last Kandyan King, Sri Wickrama Rajasinha, in 1807. The downtown area, laid out in a grid pattern in the 19th century, is clearly seen. The building with the big red roof is a new shopping mall that is slowly taking shape. It will be interesting to see if this changes the character of the town. | Here is a view on another day towards the same corner of the lake. Even on sunny days the water is very murky looking. Recent dredging removed huge quantities of mud washed down over the years from the adjacent hills. The island in the centre of the picture was where Sri Wickrama Rajasinha kept his harem. The British used it as an ammunition store. |

In June, July and August we are living in a bungalow overlooking the lake. The bungalow is the home of our friends Paul and Ina Watson, CMS Mission Partners, who have returned to UK for a summer break. Only the drive is visible in this picture. Adjacent houses are occupied by the Baptist minister, the Vicar of St. Paul's and the Archdeacon of the Kandy. A little clerical - and ecumenical - enclave! |
Relaxing in the garden of the Watson home. The hammock is shady and very adaptable. |
