| This large Buddha has been under construction for a while in a position to welcome visitors arriving on the Colombo road. It looks more picturesque to our western eyes while draped in orange cloth. | The main annual Buddhist Festival is Wesak which fell on May 1st this year. Wesak commemorates the birth, death and enlightenment of Buddha. Together with some of the campus children we went into Kandy to see the many lanterns and lights. This picture shows a large illuminated structure with a statue of Buddha at its centre which appeared to radiate outwards. |

With the Reverend Johnston McMaster, we explored the museum over three floors which, amongst other things, included interesting letters related to the early British encounters with Buddhism. |
