Kandy Test Match December 1st-3rd 2007

Saturday December 1st 2007. World Aids Day. Rosemary and James amongst many supporters from UK.  It felt a little strange at first but then we enjoyed the friendly banter.

One of the pavilions overlooking the Asigiriya ground which belongs to the local private school, Trinity College..

The view from the stand to the Hunasgiriya mountain. Sri Lanka were all out for 188 at 4pm on the first day. We lived  in hope. See December 2007 newsletter. An attempt to offset carbon by Michael Vaughan, England's captain.  Marginally less laughable than the English batting in the first innings.!
We returned after Church on Sunday December 2nd but saw only a few balls being bowled before rain stopped play. The rain comes down and the whole pitch is covered. Monday December 3rd 2007. We retuned for a second full day at cricket. This picture was taken just after Muralitharan becomes the highest wicket taker in test cricket history. We saw his 709th wicket.

A monk from the neighbouring  Asigiriya monastery in his orange robes watches. Monday 5pm December 3rd 2007: Bad light stops play but not long enough to save England.  The covers come on too.
