Christmas at Kandy Methodist Church December 2009

| The Carol Service took place on Sunday December 20th led by the choir. The service is a bi-lingual one (Sinhala and English - the church at Kattukela has a Tamil carol service). An electronic organ was used rather than the newly restored pipe organ because one organist has moved to Colombo and the other is in Canada. Others cannot play for bi-lingual services. A common problem. | During the service, as Scripture passages were read, the nativity scene was gradually populated by its share of shepherds, lambs and wise men, with, of course, the holy family. |

Waiting patiently at the back of the church were about 100 needy people who had pink tickets entitling them to a pack of dry rations (rice, milk powder, dhal and sugar). They formed an orderly queue down the aisle, handed in the ticket and then received the rations from Santa himself. Also with Santa, are the Reverend Anura and Circuit Steward Neville Liyanage. The whole Circuit will be getting together for the quarterly tri-lingual service on Sunday December 27th when we say "Farewell" to the Reverend Anura and Omika. Reverend Anura leaves Kandy Circuit after his 5 years here as Superintendent. We are glad to have had his Ministry for our time here. |
Santa wears a mask and pink washing up gloves. It all seemed a bit incongruous to us and he looked rather frightening to us but these twins don't mind at all. No-one knew who Santa was but he turned out to be one of our students, Ravi, who is always willing to help. |
