| Kandy Methodist Circuit, Social Responsibility Committee, supports various projects. Some are in Kandy such as the Women's Empowerment Centre and others are further afield. This picture shows the Reverend Anura, Superintendent of the Kandy Circuit, speaking at an event to mark the opening of the renovated Nursery at Kahandamodara near Tangalle on the south coast. The village is a Buddhist village so the local monks naturally attended. Ceremonies such as this one can take a very long time and seem much longer when you don't understand the language. | Some of the staff, mothers and children of the Nursery together with Mrs Yvonne Ferdinands of Kandy Methodist Church and Rosemary. |

| This picture was taken in a field near Thirukkovil Methodist Church. Thirukkovil is in the Eastern Province. This woman was without any income after the death of her husband. She was given a cow in calf in 2005 and went on a course and now runs her own yoghurt business. She has since purchased a further two cows. Her two young children are doing well at school. | Sinnamuhattuvaram, to the north of Thirukkovil is situated on a thin strip of land between the sea and a lagoon. The village was almost totally destroyed by the tsunami. Rather than build on the exposed strip of land, it was decided to reclaim part of the lagoon. In 2006 the Methodist Church bought some land and began to build some houses. This picture shows the sturdy foundations of some of these houses. The houses in the distance, although relatively quickly built, are not so well constructed. |
