Journey from Negombo to Anuradhapura, Saturday December 29th 2007.

The countryside between Negombo and Anuradhapura is very different from that of the hills around Kandy where we live.  It is also much hotter.  Here is a coconut estate.  Over 2 billion coconuts are harvested every year.

A house made entirely of coconut leaves.
A clock tower in Puttalam with a mosque in the background. A mosque at Puttalam.
Rosemary beside one of the many, very large, ancient reservoirs than are so plentiful in Sri Lanka. We saw peacocks, pelicans, brahminy kites, water buffalo, cormorants and kingfishers. A paddy field fringed with banana trees with coconut trees in the background.
