| After Easter Day services we set off to Galle in the hot south of the country. Term was over and the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holiday had arrived. We went with Lawrence and Malar who are mission partners from India and their two children, Felix and Felicita. Lawrence's contract at TCL is now complete and the family will be leaving Sri Lanka soon after six years during which Lawrence and Malar have taken on all sorts of responsibilities at the college. They will be much missed by everyone. | We stayed at a small guest house called "Rampart View" . This is the seaward view from its roof top. |

| We visited a temple near Galle and were warmly welcomed by the resident Monk. Being the Sinhala New Year the temple hung with more flags than usual. In general, temple compounds are beautifully kept and the outside area beneath the trees is just as important as the buildings and their content. | A typical beach scene further along the coast. We struggled to find anything open over the holiday period. In Galle Fort itself there was only one place to eat in the evening. Even Galle town was completely shut. |

| On the way back from Galle along the coast road we stopped at the place where a train was destroyed by the tsunami on Dec. 26th 2004. This picture shows a brass memorial that tries to depict the horror of the event. | On the way home we visited the very large Temple at Kalutura. The Temple, like so many here, is quite new. It is also very big, being a large hollow dagoba (bell shaped dome) with the above pictured dagoba within. Around the interior rim of the dagoba are pictures telling the traditional stories about the Buddha. It is really quite impressive. |
