Furlough 2008:  March & April: In and Around the Bristol District of the Methodist Church

Rosemary's first worship appointment was to preach  in Wroughton Parish Church on Sunday April 6th, the church in which  we were married in June 1997.  It was lovely to see the church in snow. However the cold weather meant that the white sari did not get worn!   Wroughton Parish Church and Wroughton Methodist Church have been very generous to the Theological College of Lanka over the past three years.  We stayed with our friends Janet and  Christina Le Moignan in Sherborne from April 7th to 9th, and had a day out at Forde Abbey which was astonishingly beautiful on a bright early Spring day.
We took the service at Nexus Church in Bath on Sunday April 13th  as guests of Rosemary's former colleague (and our friend) Audrey Simpson.  Nexus has also been very generous to TCL. Here James is pictured in Bath with Helen and Audrey. Rosemary enjoyed a Silent Retreat at Sheldon (the Society of Mary and Martha) in Devon.  She was able to go for some quiet walks on her own in the afternoons  amongst some traditional English Spring countryside scenes. The weather that week (April 14th-18th) was very pleasant indeed.

We were the guests of Jerry and Sue Barr on the side of Cleeve Hill near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.  Jerry (as our very good Link Person for the District)  had kindly arranged our Bristol District programme and he and Sue took good care of us over the weekend of  April 26th -28th.  Here on the Sunday afternoon, in between services,  Jerry takes us for a walk on Cleeve Hill.

In Tewkesbury on Sunday April 27th we met the Reverend Graeme Jackson  who was a Mission Partner ( in those days called Missionaries)  in Sri Lanka between 1955 and 1965.  His father, the Reverend Basil Jackson, was the first Principal of TCL (1963-66) and  he and his wife Sandy had served in Sri Lanka from 1926 to 1966.
