Four Farewells and a Welcome

| On 1st January 2010 we attended a farewell evening meal for Rev. Anura Perera and his wife, Omika. Anura was the Superintendent Minister of the Kandy Circuit for the last five years and we feel very privileged to have known him so well. We learned much about inter-faith relations from him. The meal was hosted by TCL because Anura taught a very good Conflict Transformation course. | On 5th January we had Fr. Karu, Jancy, Berith, Emeth and Jancy's mother for lunch. They left for Colombo early next morning: their worldly goods crammed into and on top of one of the lovely, colourfully painted wooden framed lorries that are common here. Karu is now the Superintendent Minister at Kandy City Mission, the oldest Methodist Church in Sri Lanka. |

The College's Women Fellowship said good-bye to a large number of its members some three months before some will leave because the long vacation is looming and the women students will be gone quite soon. Here we see some leavers, namely, Samanthi (a student spouse), Sethsara, Rosemary, Arlene and Priya, who is married to the TCL Principal, Jebi.. Priya has been here for 17 years. Thursday 4th March 2010. |
On March 5th we welcomed Fr. Keethi Fernando, Arlene, Sethlath and Sethsara to supper. Fr. Keerthi has been recalled by the Bishop of Colombo after nearly 15 years of dedicated and various service at TCL. Arlene has been a keen gardener at the College. When we first met them in Dec. 2005 they had just returned from England where Keerthi had been studying. Sethsara had a perfect English accent. It disappeared in a few weeks and now she speaks English like a Sri Lankan. Sethlath is also charming. |

| Amidst all the farewells we have said hello to Fr. Stephen, an Anglican priest from Jaffna who hopes to be at the College for the long term. We hope so too! Fr. Stephen has worked very hard to overcome the disadvantage of being nearly blind. He is taking his duties as College chaplain very seriously and is already well-respected by the students. He aims to continue his higher studies while seconded to TCL. | |
