A few good-byes to friends

| Mission Partner, Becky Mathew, has been in Sri Lanka for three years serving in the Diocese of Colombo, first in a church in Mirihana and then at St. Thomas' s School in Mount Lavinia. She and husband, Shemil, are also leaving the island in July. | St. Thomas's School is one of the top schools in Sri Lanka with about 3000 male students aged 3 to 18. Such schools command extraordinary loyalty and the old boy network is very strong. Here we see boys filing into the chapel. |

After November 2008 we spent many happy times with Jenny Hulin, a VSO volunteer (Voluntary Service Overseas) who worked in the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre high up in the hills in Deltota. On most days she drove on her scooter for a hour along the winding roads. We had a regular Thursday night appointment with her in Dinemor, an excellent halal restaurant. Sadly, four months before she was due to leave, Jenny had to return to England because her mother was dying. Here she is pictured in her home, just outside of Kandy with her trusty steed. We were inundated with invitations to dinner from church members and were grateful to one of them, Yasoo, for hosting a dinner so that we could see them all. Here we see (standing) Carmen, Yasoo, Shiranthi, Thal and (seated) Kamala and Yvonne. Jean and Paru came later. Monday May 17th 2010 |
