College Day: Friday July 10th 2009

| This year the annual prize-giving day, College Day, took place in the newly constructed and not yet completed auditorium. The building looked quite attractive in its uncompleted, open to the elements, state. Much tidying up was needed by the contractors and the ever-patient students, and fortunately the elements were kind to us providing no rain and sufficient sunshine. |
These interesting traditional decorations are constructed from a stripped
plantain (banana) tree trunk (white) and the fronds of the coconut palm
leaves. In Sinhala these are called Gok decorations. The students were up until 2.00am getting the auditorium and the approach road ready.

The new auditorium is located near our house and is remote from the rest of the college. So the traditional procession was started at a different place and the route was decorated, again using palm leaves. You can see the traditional Kandyan drummers which form part of the procession. |
The Faculty looked unusually colourful in their various robes. BD (postgraduate Bachelor of Divinity) degrees, BTh (Bachelor of Theology) degrees, TCL Diplomas, TCL Certificates, Diplomas in Christian Studies and Diplomas in Counselling and Group Work Skills were awarded. |
