Induction of the New Principal, the Reverend Dr Jerome Sahabandhu on College Day: Friday 9th July 2010

Mr. Peiris, the new Administrator looks on as the procession makes its way slowly down the hill to the Library Hall. Every year the procession has its Kandyan dancers with drums and conch shell.  This year one of the dancers was the son of the one of the College cooks, Mallika, who was very proud.  They dance vigorously for a while, then stop and stroll along with the procession and then dance again. The traditional oil lamp was lit by various members of the community.  He we see the cowman, Ramesh, representing the garden staff while the guest of honour, Dr. Hope Antone from the Philippines, looks on.

The Library Hall gave the impression of being packed to the gunnels even though there was some spare seats.  There were many guests as well as the graduating former students attending.

The rostrum in the middle was occupied by the guest of honour, Dr. Hope Antone, the former Principal Rev. Dr. A. W. Jebanesan (Jebi) and the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Rev. Kinsley Perera.  Dr. Antone gave a very interesting speech in which she asked the question," Can you be a Buddhist Christian or a Christian Buddhist?"  This is a very relevant question in this part of the world.

To the right were the current students who, along with staff and Faculty, had worked tirelessly in the previous days to make the occasion the success it was.

Here we see the new Principal, Rev. Dr. Jerome Sahabandhu being given a candle to symbolize his leadership role.
