Around Kandy, October to December 2008

Overlooking Kandy is a large Buddha, seen here from afar at sunset.

This small chapel at the English Teacher Training College at Penadeniya is built in the local Kandyan style.  It was designed by the same architect who designed the much larger chapel at Trinity College in Kandy.  However, this chapel is rather forlorn.
We attended a performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado at the Colombo International School on Saturday evening November 22nd 2008 in which Abi and Hannah were singing.  Youthful exuberance won through.

This elephant was just passing by when we were in the garden of the Watson's: Friday December 12th 2008, December Poya Day which we spent with Ina and Paul, Abi and Hannah. Our last day together but it had many special moments, including seeing this elephant!

We drove with Clive into the nearby Knuckles mountains on the Poya Day in October. Tuesday October 14th 2008. Poya Days are a good opportunity to get out and about! We drove to Kurenagala on Saturday November 1st 2008, to show Clive another part of the area. It is  one hour from Kandy.  Here is the Anglican Cathedral  of the Diocese of Kurengala,  also designed in the local style.
